Électricité du Liban (EDL), the government-owned electricity provider for Lebanon, has shown abysmal performance levels supplying a meager 2 hours of electricity per day. LIMS explained that the international increase in oil prices amid the war on Ukraine, the severity of the currency devaluation, and the high cost of living motivated individuals to adopt novel ways of getting energy. Over the last year, the number of households in Lebanon relying on solar panels have doubled. LIMS recommended allowing private enterprise into the sector for electricity generation and distribution. This would offer consumers a wide array of choices and force producers to lower prices, while bettering their services, to attract and retain customers.
